Beetle Cygne is the RetroArch libretro core for the Bandai WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color. It is a standalone port of Mednafen's WonderSwan emulation to libretro; Mednafen's implementation is itself a fork of Cygne. This page is a source summary of the official libretro documentation, not a hands-on walkthrough, and it describes the core's declared feature support and limitations.
What Beetle Cygne Is
The core targets Bandai's WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color handheld hardware. The official documentation credits the core to Dox and the Mednafen Team, and describes it as a standalone port of Mednafen WonderSwan to libretro, which in turn is a fork of Cygne.
Supported and Unsupported Features
The official feature table records which standard RetroArch capabilities the core provides. Netplay is supported but explicitly excludes link-cable emulation, so the documented Netplay support should not be read as support for the WonderSwan link cable.
Practical Consequences
- Because Core Options are unsupported, the documented core does not expose a core-options menu. Because RetroArch Cheats and Native Cheats are both unsupported, the documentation does not describe cheat support for this core. Since Softpatching and Memory Monitoring are listed as supported, those documented capabilities are available alongside save states, rewinding, saves, screenshots, and control remapping.
