FS-UAE is a port of the FS-UAE Amiga emulator to libretro, the core format used by RetroArch. The official documentation page covers the core's background, required Kickstart files, loadable content extensions, supported frontend features, and core options. This guide restates those documented points in working order.

Prerequisite: Kickstart placement

The core expects a Kickstart to be located in the user's 'saves' directory, in a subdirectory named fsue/Kickstarts. Place the required Kickstart file at that path before loading content; the documentation lists this as the core's file-expectation, and the article does not describe how to obtain Kickstart files.

Documented setup steps

  • 1. Confirm the core is available as FS-UAE in RetroArch and that the documented Kickstart path (saves/fsue/Kickstarts) is populated.
  • 2. Load content with one of the documented file extensions: .adf, .ipf, or .fs-uae.
  • 3. Adjust core options from the core options menu as needed, using the documented defaults shown in the table below.
  • 4. Expect no save states and no rewind, since the documentation lists both as unsupported frontend features.

Loadable content extensions

The core can load content with the .adf, .ipf, and .fs-uae file extensions. These are the only extensions listed in the source documentation, which also associates the core with the Commodore - Amiga RetroArch database.

Features the core does not support

According to the documented feature table, the FS-UAE core does not support States or Rewind at the frontend level. Plan around the absence of save states and rewind rather than expecting to enable them.

Core options and defaults

The core exposes four options in the core options menu. The default setting for each is bolded in the source documentation and is preserved here: Internal resolution (fsuaeresolution) defaults to 640x400; Pixel Format (fsuaefmt) defaults to RGB565; Use Analog (analog) defaults to OFF; Leds (leds) defaults to Standard.

Authorship and license

The documentation credits FrodeSolheim as the author of the FS-UAE core and lists the core as licensed under GPLv2. A summary of the licenses behind RetroArch and its cores is linked from the same page.
