EmuSCV is the libretro core for the Super Cassette Vision, a home video game console made by EPOCH CO. and released in Japan on July 17, 1984. It was released in France later in 1984 under the YENO brand. This guide summarizes what the official RetroArch documentation says about running the core: the prerequisite BIOS, which frontend features the core supports, and how cartridge saves are handled.
Prerequisite: the Super Cassette Vision BIOS
EmuSCV requires a Super Cassette Vision BIOS to run. Make sure a valid BIOS file is in place before you attempt to launch content with this core.
Getting started
- 1. Confirm the Super Cassette Vision BIOS is available to RetroArch before launching anything.
- 2. Load the EmuSCV core in RetroArch.
- 3. Load a supported Super Cassette Vision cartridge to start the core.
- 4. Use the core, restart, state and rewind features as listed in the supported-features table below.
How cartridge saves work
The core does not expose cartridge RAM to the frontend, so RetroArch does not manage it. Instead, the core writes the data itself into a .save file placed beside the converted cartridge. This is why the frontend Saves feature is marked unsupported even though battery-backed cartridges still keep their contents.
Supported core features
The documentation lists which frontend features EmuSCV supports. Supported features include restart, save states, rewind, core options, controls and remapping. The frontend Saves feature is marked unsupported, which is covered in the previous section.
Limitations to keep in mind
- - The core cannot run without a Super Cassette Vision BIOS.
- - Frontend save management is not available for this core; cartridge saves are handled by the core itself in a .save file next to the converted cartridge.
