Gong is a Pong clone written for libretro, the core has been authored by Brad Parker and it is licensed under GPL v3. This guide summarizes what the official RetroArch documentation states about the core's feature support, core options and input.

Documented feature support

  • Per the official documentation, Gong supports states, rewind, core options and controls, while saves, memory monitoring for achievements, RetroArch cheats, subsystems and disk control are listed as unsupported.

Because battery-backed saves are not listed as supported, expect to rely on save states rather than in-game save files. Rewind and core options are both documented as available, so settings can be adjusted from within RetroArch's core options menu.

Core options

  • The documentation lists two core options: Player 2 (gong_player2), which defaults to CPU and can be switched to Human, and Video Refresh Rate (restart) (gong_refresh), which defaults to 60 and offers 70, 72, 75, 100, 119, 120, 140 and 144 as alternatives. The refresh rate option is marked as requiring a restart, so apply any change there and then relaunch content.

Controls

The documentation states that the core exposes 2 controller ports, and that each port can be set to the Joypad device type. It does not enumerate individual button mappings, so remap controls through RetroArch's own input settings rather than assuming a fixed layout.

For licensing details and the broader list of cores, see the RetroArch documentation project, which is the source for everything summarized here.
