ScummVM lets you play classic graphic point-and-click adventure games, text adventure games and RPGs, provided you already have the game data files. It replaces the executable files that shipped with those games. The RetroArch ScummVM core brings that engine into RetroArch.
What You Need Before Starting
The core does not supply games. Per the official documentation, ScummVM works only as long as you already have the game data files for the titles you intend to run; the engine takes the place of the games' original executables rather than providing content.
Documented RetroArch Feature Support
The official documentation includes a support matrix for this core. Restart, Saves, Core Options, Controls and Remapping are marked as supported, while States, Rewind, Netplay, Memory Monitoring (achievements), RetroArch Cheats, Native Cheats and Multi-Mouse are marked as not supported. The table below lists the entries recorded in the source.
- Supported: Restart, Saves, Core Options, Controls, Remapping.
- Not supported: States, Rewind, Netplay, Memory Monitoring (achievements), RetroArch Cheats, Native Cheats, Multi-Mouse.
What the Support Matrix Means in Practice
Because the source lists Saves as supported and States as not supported, in-game save files are the documented persistence method for this core, while RetroArch save states are not offered. Restart is listed as supported.
Since States and Rewind are not supported, expect to rely on restarting the game and loading your in-game saves rather than rewinding or resuming a snapshot if something goes wrong.
Core Options, Controls and Remapping are listed as supported, so core-level settings and input configuration are documented as available. Netplay is not supported, so the documentation does not describe linked online play through this core.
Memory Monitoring (achievements), RetroArch Cheats and Native Cheats are all marked as not supported, so the documentation lists no achievement monitoring or cheat facilities for this core. Multi-Mouse is likewise listed as not supported.
